TaalMala is a (Microsoft Windows) PC based Tabla/Pakhawaj accompaniment software for music enthusiasts and professionals. Although the software has been developed with an Indian Classical Musician in mind, it is useful for any musician who wishes to use Tabla or Pakhawaj (Drums used in North Indian/Hindustani music). TaalMala has a highly intuitive advanced graphical user interface (GUI) that can be used to construct virtually any Taal (rhythm cycle). Each Bol (stroke) in the Taal can be composed individually by specifying the stroke to be played on Tabla (the main/pitch drum) and Dagga (the bass drum). For example, a common stroke named "Dhaa" can be composed by specifying the stroke "Na" on Tabla and the stroke "Ge" on Dagga. The emphasis and duration of each stroke is adjustable. Once a Taal (rhythm) has been constructed, TaalMala generates the sounds and plays it in a loop. The user can change the beat period (tempo) of the cycle (even when the Taal is playing).
